The Chair of GP-WA, Prof. Amadou H. MAIGA and the Executive Secretary, Mr. Armand HOUANYE visited Senegal from 16 to 21 Novembre 2020 to support the Country Water Partnership (CWP) that is engaging new actions for a renewed dynamism. The chair of CWP Senegal, Dr. Adrien COLY invited the regional leadership to back the CWP in its efforts for consolidating the actions he has started with his team to strengthen the partnership, build new alliances and engage new fund-raising initiatives.

Magmatic Water, new water source for addressing freshwater scarcity

In order to carry out an in-depth consultation with the main stakeholders of Benin on the indicators of the water investment monitoring systems (AIP SCORECARD and WASSMO), for the purpose of validating the data collected under the 2021-2022 review, the Water, Climate, Development and Gender Equality Programme (WACDEP G) implemented by the Benin Country Water Partnership (CWP BENIN) in collaboration with the Benin Water Directorate, organised the workshop for the validation of Benin's data in the African Water Investment Scorecard (AIP Scorecard) and the setting up of the national data collection platform for the WASSMO system indicators, at the SOSSA Hotel in Cotonou (Benin).

In an interview for GWP-Med Newsflow, Mr Almotaz Abadi, Managing Director for Water, at the Union for the Mediterranean - Water and Environment Division, discusses regional efforts to address water scarcity and climate challenges, the key ingredients of impactful UfM projects, ways to adapt to COVID-19 effects, and the necessity of adopting a proactive approach for realizing the SDGs.

A 3-part webinar series took place in February and March to highlight and clarify linkages between water and climate in national climate action plans, such as the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), the National Adaptation Plans (NAPs), and various investment mechanisms. “For me, the stories from countries were the best part. I think they speak to all of us and tell us what it's really like to change theory into implementation on the ground,” said Dani Gaillard-Picher, GWP Global Coordinator for Water and Climate Processes, in her summary of the series.

Formation of Area Water Partnerships (AWS) across the country has led to new leadership capacity at community level, promoting dialogue and local action. Since their inception, AWS have contributed to improving water security for about 13,400 people in Pakistan.   

GWP CEE joined a consortium of likeminded organizations to build Erasmus+ Youth for Water and Climate program.
