The GWP-WA Executive Secretariat with the support of Stockholm is working since the beginning of December 2020 to document eleven (11) processes in West Africa including 3 in Benin, 3 in Ghana, 1 in Burkina Faso, 1 in Senegal and 3 at transboundary and cross border level.
Liza Debevec joined the global GWP secretariat in May 2020 as Senior Gender & Water Specialist. This is the first time GWP has a full-time person dedicated to gender, and Liza’s task will be to operationalize the gender dimensions of GWP's 2020-2025 Strategy, and more specifically the GWP Gender Strategy and Gender Action Piece. In this Q&A interview, Liza shares thoughts on her new role: “The biggest gender and social inclusion challenge in every sector, not just in water resources management, is that of access, or the lack of access to relevant resources that women and vulnerable communities face.”
Gender-specific information reported through a SDG 6.5.1 survey showed that gender-related aspects were among the least advanced among all aspects of Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM). On 16 September, the SDG IWRM Support Programme is organising an online event to share learning experiences from the survey and discuss what actions to take to improve gender mainstreaming.
Water governance must embrace gender equality and social inclusion if it is to truly contribute to poverty reduction as the world closes in on 2030, the world’s deadline for meeting the ambitious Sustainable Development Goals. Only by integrating gender and poverty issues into scientific research that informs and finances more equitable and inclusive policies, can we hope to move closer to these important goals.
The Regional Climate Weeks are key meetings that help build momentum for the annual UN Climate Change Conference and drive forward regional implementation of the Paris Climate Change Agreement. The 2021 Asia-Pacific Climate Week (APCW 2021) takes place in a virtual format on 6-9 July.
A multi-stakeholder consultation held in N’Djamena, Chad on September 4th 2020 revealed that the level of implementation of indicator 6.5.1 of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) which tracks the “degree of implementation of Integrated Water Resource Management (IWRM)” in the country has increased from 32% (2017 baseline) to 37%.

The International Water Association (IWA) is organising the first IWA Digital Water Summit - the original dates were set to 27-30 April in Bilbao, Spain, however due to the worldwide Corinavirus crisis new dates have been announced: 30 November - 3 December. The event is designed to bring together water technology providers and water utilities with a focus on business and industry.
