GWP Eastern Africa and four riparian countries – Djibouti, Kenya, Sudan, and Uganda – have received funding from the Adaptation Fund through the Sahara and Sahel Observatory (OSS) to implement the project on “Strengthening Drought Resilience for Smallholder Farmers and Pastoralists in the IGAD Region” - the DRESS-EA project. A formal launch of the project takes place online on 6 October.

During its statutory meetings held in Ouagadougou from 23 to 26 September, the Global Water Partnership West Africa (GWP-WA) partners officially launched the implementation of the new GWP Strategy 2020-2025 in West Africa.

The UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) convenes the 2020 edition of the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) from Tuesday 7 July to Thursday 16 July. The event will mainly be in a virtual format due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with some limited events held for New York-based participants.

Dr. Paulette Bynoe is a Senior Lecturer and the Interim Deputy Dean of the School of Graduate Studies and Research, University of Guyana. The Global Water Partnership Mediterranean GEF/UNDP/GWP-Med project 'Enabling transboundary cooperation and integrated water resources management in the extended Drin River Basin' (GEF Drin Project) endeavors to raise public awareness on natural wealth and cultural heritage of the Drin River Basin through the celebration of Drin Day 2020.

Stakeholders from the political sphere, scientists, activists, and professionals that participated at the online workshop “Gender dimensions in the sustainable management of natural resources through a Nexus approach in the Drina River Basin” acknowledged the fact that women are disproportionately affected by natural disasters and should have a more active role in decision making on environmental issues.
