GWP Contributes to Delft Agenda with Local Community Engagement Expertise

IHE Delft has held the 6th edition of the International Symposium on Knowledge and Capacity Development for the Water Sector. Due to the global coronavirus pandemic, the symposium – “From Capacity Development to Implementation Science” – was held online on 26-29 May, with around 500 participants from around the world. GWP is a Partner of the Symposium and hosted a session on ‘Reaching and engaging local communities.’ Recommendations from all sessions were fed into the Delft Agenda, finalised at the end of June and launched on 20 July.

IWD 2022: Celebrating women’s contribution to building a sustainable tomorrow

To commemorate the 2022 International Women’s Day which is celebrated under the theme, “Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow”, GWP -Central Africa spotlights three women who are leading the charge on climate change adaptation, mitigation, and response, to build a more sustainable future for all. We asked them about what inspired them as women, to join the fight against climate change in their different scope of work plus their contributions so far to climate adaptation. Curbing Unregulated River Sand Mining in Sri Lanka

As the world’s cities experience rapid growth, the global construction industry has been expanding exponentially. As a result, the demand for and price of river sand, which is the favoured natural material to produce mortar and concrete, has also increased. In Sri Lanka in particular, demand has been rising since the early 1990s, and has taken a notable leap since the 2004 tsunami. GWP Sri Lanka and its partners successfully contributed to a better regulated river sand mining sector.

Time to Act in Unison on the Climate Emergency

The recent IPCC report paints a grim picture of the future of our planet. A red code for humanity. We pushed the climate into unprecedented territory, and now is the time to act, says GWP Executive Secretary Darío Soto-Abril in a statement responding to the IPCC Sixth Assessment Report. He stresses that to succeed in the battle against climate disaster, we need to work in unison.

Ninth Session of the Meeting of the Parties to the Water Convention

The 9th session of the Meeting of the Parties (MOP9) to the Convention on the Protection and Use of Transboundary Watercourses and International Lakes is organised by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) in cooperation with the Government of Estonia. The event takes place on 29 September to 1 October, and will be in a hybrid format, in the Palais des Nations/Geneva and virtual. On the first day, GWP Executive Secretary Darío Soto-Abril will be a panellist in a high-level special segment on the theme of “Water and Peace”. Side events connected to the MOP9 will be held on 27-28 September.
