The High-Level Experts and Leaders Panel on Water and Disasters (HELP) developed a set of Principles to Address Water-Related Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) during the COVID-19 Pandemic.
The Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA), a partner in the Integrating Water, Land and Ecosystems Management in Caribbean Small Island Developing States (IWEco) project, was subcontracted to execute activities under project component 3 (policy & legislation). The mandate was to implement the development of an Action Framework for Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) for the CARICOM Region in collaboration with The Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS).

The Masungi Georeserve was announced winners of the Water ChangeMaker Awards in a ceremony at the Climate Adaptation Summit on 25 January. Their project is about restoring forgotten watersheds through youth-led movements. In a Facebook Live session on 4 March, Billie Dumaliang, representing the winning team, encouraged youth to be brave and creative, and to work together when tackling their climate challenges.
The World Meteorological Organization (WMO), the Volta Basin Authority (VBA) and Global Water Partnership West Africa (GWP-WA) are implementing the project "Integrating Flood and Drought Management and Early Warning for Climate Change Adaptation in the Volta Basin (VFDM)" funded by the Adaptation Fund. The project activities, which started in June 2019, are ongoing and will be completed by mid-2023.
The Africa EU Mediterranean Continental Session of the GWP 2020 Network Meeting, which is open to all partners, will take place on 22 October 2020 at 11:00 – 13:30 CAT under the theme ‘Bringing the Change’.
Within the framework of the AIP WACDEP-G program, GWP-CAf in collaboration with the Directorate General of Natural Resources and Energy (DGRE) STP and GWP Sao Tome and Principe (PNASTP) organised a virtual/in-person gender training for the Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) sector managers in Sao Tome and Principe from April 6th to 8th 2021.
The Department of Agriculture, Water Resources and Environment of the West African Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU/UEMOA) Commission in collaboration with Global Water Partnership West Africa (GWP-WA) held a virtual regional workshop on the theme of ''Water Governance and Sustainable Development Goals: progress and challenges at the local level in the WAEMU region''.
August 4 -- The High-Level Experts and Leaders Panel on Water and Disasters (HELP) was established to assist the international community, governments, and stakeholders in mobilizing political will and resources. HELP is committed to addressing water-related disaster risk reduction including the present challenge with the COVID-19 pandemic circumstances in hand. The consultation meeting was held to discuss and gain insights on how to practically implement key suggestions proposed in the HELP Principle to Address Water-related Disaster Risk Reduction under Covid-19 Pandemic. The consultation also aims exchanges among decision-makers, experts and practitioners in Asia region on how they can be better prepared for co-occurring disasters on water and health.
