The Central American Commission for Environment and Development (CCAD) and GWP Central America reported back to the Ministries of Environment of Nicaragua, Honduras and Guatemala on the national workshops regarding integrated drought management. GWP Central America coordinated a series of workshops on integrated drought management as part of the project “Increasing Disaster Risk Reduction Capacity due to Floods and Drought and Promoting Resilience in Central America”, financed by EUROCLIMA+.
Last year the global pandemic exposed how current governance systems are inadequately prepared to address systemic challenges that threaten humanity. Better preparedness can make communities more resilient to large scale threats. On 2 June, GWP launched a report, “Mobilising Change: 10 years of climate resilient water investments”, which is a contribution to implementing transformative development to solve climate change challenges to water security.

CWP-BF facilitated an awareness-raising session for students on environmental protection and human health in partnership with GWP-WA and IWS as part of the implementation of the TonFuturTonClimat pilot project funded by the Government of Quebec. Joyce Najm Mendez describes herself as a technoxamanist, TEDx lecturer, STEM advocate and social entrepreneur working on the water-energy-food nexus and transboundary cooperation. She is a MSc candidate in Sustainability and Adaptation Planning at the Centre of Alternative Technology, UK, and she has co-founded several organisations in Latin America, tackling mainly sustainability and adaptation-mitigation of climate change. In this article, she shares some of her experiences. She says that “working with young people means investing in the present, and the opportunity for real change in the civilisation paradigm.”
