The Global Water Partnership (GWP) Steering Committee announced the appointment of Mr Darío Soto-Abril (pictured) as GWP Executive Secretary, effective March 1, 2021. Soto-Abril joins GWP after serving as Global CEO at Fairtrade International since February 2017.
Last year the global pandemic exposed how current governance systems are inadequately prepared to address systemic challenges that threaten humanity. Better preparedness can make communities more resilient to large scale threats. On 2 June, GWP launched a report, “Mobilising Change: 10 years of climate resilient water investments”, which is a contribution to implementing transformative development to solve climate change challenges to water security.
One of the primary strategic goals of GWP is to engage youth in any way possible. The point is to give them a fighting chance for a water secure future. This year, we tried something new.
The Caribbean Science Symposium on Water is an opportunity to bridge that gap by bringing together representatives from the research, development, economic, legislative and policy communities to share and discuss ideas on ongoing scientific studies and best practices related to enhancing water secure developments and Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) in the Caribbean.
GWP and the International Water Management Institute (IWMI) launched a new Perspectives Paper, “Storing Water: A new integrated approach for resilient development." The launch took place in a webinar on 24 February, gathering about 300 people for what is to be the start of a broad cross-sector dialogue on water storage.
The Fourth Ordinary Session of the Council of Ministers of the Mono Basin Authority (MBA) was held in Lomé on 21 January 2022, under the chairmanship of Mr. Bolidja TIEM, Minister for Water and Village Hydraulics of Togo, Chair of the MBA Council of Ministers, in the presence of his counterpart of Benin, Mr. Samou SEIDOU ADAMBI, Minister for Water and Mines.
