SDG 6.5.1 monitoring and reporting provides a wealth of data and a comprehensive global picture on the progress of IWRM implementation in countries. The UN Environment Programme (UNEP), as the custodian agency for SDG indicator 6.5.1, periodically invites countries to undertake data collection to respond to a survey on the status of IWRM, analyses the data submitted by countries and shares the results in global progress reports to boost implementation of IWRM.
To mark International Women’s Day 2021 – whose theme is “Choose to Challenge” – GWP Eastern Africa’s Gender Advisor, Caroline Rukundo, shared some thoughts on where gender biases exist in the water sector and how these biases can be challenged – and overcome.

The first platform with harmonized data for the Drin River’s environment, societies and economies has just been launched. The Integrated Management System is a free online tool available to all that allows regular information exchange among competent institutions in the Drin basin, facilitating effective transboundary cooperation.
On 27 April, GWP organised a learning exchange on the topic, “IWRM Action Planning to Accelerate Progress on SDG 6”. The event had over 150 participants who shared their experiences on how to accelerate Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) to contribute to the achievement of the water-related Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
