COVID 19: Call from Global Water Partnership West Africa (GWP-WA) for the fight against the pandemic

(Ouagadougou, 7 April 2020) - The World is going through a serious health crisis linked to the spread of Covid 19. The pandemic is affecting almost all African countries, including the 15 West African States. Covid-19 could seriously affect the nations and populations of West Africa in their daily lives and economic activities given the fragility of health systems, informal economy and precarious urban systems.

Ninth Session of the Meeting of the Parties to the Water Convention

The 9th session of the Meeting of the Parties (MOP9) to the Convention on the Protection and Use of Transboundary Watercourses and International Lakes is organised by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) in cooperation with the Government of Estonia. The event takes place on 29 September to 1 October, and will be in a hybrid format, in the Palais des Nations/Geneva and virtual. On the first day, GWP Executive Secretary Darío Soto-Abril will be a panellist in a high-level special segment on the theme of “Water and Peace”. Side events connected to the MOP9 will be held on 27-28 September.

The Global Water Partnership Mediterranean GEF/UNDP/GWP-Med project 'Enabling transboundary cooperation and integrated water resources management in the extended Drin River Basin' (GEF Drin Project) endeavors to raise public awareness on natural wealth and cultural heritage of the Drin River Basin through the celebration of Drin Day 2020.

Time to Do It the GWP W.A.Y.

We are happy to introduce the GWP Water Academy for Youth (W.A.Y.). The GWP W.A.Y. is an opportunity for young professionals to realise their potential in the water community, become influencers and leaders, create momentum with key actors, and enhance youth engagement and empowerment in water resources management. The first global activity is a joint GWP, CAP-NET, University of Andres/UNESCO online course, “From Learning to Leading: Beyond the ABCs of Youth, Water, and the SDGs.” Registration opens on 17 August and the course is free.
