The sustainability of Africa’s economic growth and development will depend on what happens to water resources on the continent. This document provides in-depth information on methods and tools for enhancing water security and climate resilient development. This is a Technical Background document, developed under the Water, Climate and Development Programme (WACDEP).
The Regional Coordinator visited the Ramitenga site where the Burkina WACDEP is implementing its pilot project for the demonstration of drip irrigation through solar energy to boost agricultural production.
With the overall vision of achieving water security and the SDGs, GWP supports mandated actors to advance water governance through the application of IWRM principles – widely accepted as the keys to solving the problem of sharing limited water resources equitably among many competing water users. Our most meaningful results therefore lie in the governance improvements introduced by actors at all levels where GWP is active. These governance improvements, recorded as tangible outcomes, occur in “change areas” which cover the wide array of the water governance spectrum.
Since its establishment in 2003, GWPEA has strived to promote the knowledge and application of IWRM as a proven approach to manage water security and resilience to climate change
Participants from each country are expected to come to the workshop with at least one project ideas that can potentially be developed into concept notes for resilience-building water projects, with the intention of subsequently advancing them to project proposals for submission to the Green Climate Fund.
Coinciding with World Water Day, 22 March, GWP is launching a brand-new website – in 14 editions! Every GWP region (13 in total) has its own regional website, plus the global website www.gwp.org tying them all together. This hasn’t changed, but in addition to a new responsive look and design, the big makeover lies in new search functions for knowledge, news, events, and partners, as well as more highlighting GWP’s results. We strive for easy and quick access.
The second Country Consultation Meeting between Bangladesh and Myanmar under Learning Deltas Asia Initiative (LDAI) was held at Irrigation and Water Utilisation Management Department (IWUMD) Conference Hall, Yangon from 1 to 4 June 2017 together with a field visit to Ayeyarwady Delta in Myanmar.
