12 November (Pretoria) – Global Water Partnership Southern Africa and the Development Bank of Southern Africa, (DBSA) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) which seeks to promote investment and collaboration for water and sanitation projects in the Southern Africa region.

GWP is collaborating with the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) secretariat and other partners to create a vision and plausible water solutions of a desirable climate-resilient future in 2030 and beyond. The new initiative is called "Water Resilience Frontiers: Pathways for transformational Climate Resilient Water Security in 2030 and Beyond". The initiative is part of the UNFCCC Nairobi Work Programme’s Resilience Frontiers. The UNFCCC is convening a Resilience Lab for the duration of COP25. GWP organised an online peer-to-peer learning exchange with leaders from its country platforms on 21 January. The event focused on how to mobilise and engage for stronger Country Water Partnerships (CWPs) and other GWP country platforms to amplify GWP's impact. It was also the launch event in a year-long celebration of GWP's 25th Anniversary.

August 26-30, 2019, supported by the Global Water Partnership China (GWP China), the Pearl River Water Resources Commission (PRWRC) of the Ministry of Water Resources of China (MWR), on occasion of its 60th anniversary, invited stakeholders from member states under the East Asia Summit (EAS) to Guangzhou for sharing practices and innovations in the estuary management, coastal growth and regional collaborations.

GWOPA’s Julie Perkins talks about the role of water operators and explains why everyone should submit their change journey to the Water ChangeMaker Awards, get recognition and share their solutions with the rest of the world. “The very courageous and visionary people and institutions, who have taken bold leadership to climate action should really be credited with this”.

GWP-Med, as key partner to the Cairo Water Week since its launch in 2018, co-organised and facilitated a day-event and two sessions, giving a strong message for enhanced focus on facilitating investments in the water sector, the role of gender in water diplomacy and mobilizing Young Professionals in the fight to meet the SDGs.

The Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) are a powerful framework for laying out priorities for national climate action, with the potential to guide priorities such as building climate resilience and climate-resilient infrastructure. They can be developed into country-level strategies and/or approaches for mobilising finance for climate resilient infrastructure programmes and projects and for enhancing the necessary policy and regulatory frameworks. The first window of opportunity ahead is the submission of new or updated NDCs in 2020.
