For the first time since the establishment of the Global Water Partnership-Caribbean (GWP-C) in 2004, Belize has now become an official Partner country of the GWP-C. It is well-known that Belize is a country based in Central America but has maintained strong ties to the Caribbean, as part of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM). Mainly due to the country’s geographical location, it fell under the GWP Central America Partnership.
In its new Strategy for 2020-2025, GWP has committed to “purposefully reach out to and mobilise youth groups and younger individuals to confront water resources management challenges”. This statement is based on a commitment that GWP made in 2015, in its Youth Engagement Strategy. Now, a very tangible outcome is being introduced – a close collaboration with GWP and youth organisations to make sure that the voices of youth are heard.
The 11th Petersberg Climate Dialogue (PCD) is held as a video conference on 27 and 28 April. The United Kingdom, as President of the next Climate Change Conference (COP 26), co-chairs the PCD. The event focuses on sustainable recovery after the current health crisis.
“Back in 1991, as a fresh Ph.D. holder in Environmental Biology from the Forest Research Institute, Dehradun, India, I never had a dearth of opportunities to work as a scientist. However, I was keen to use my skills and knowledge for practical applications for betterment of community. On 26 April 2021, the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources in Zambia, in collaboration with GWPSA, convened a kick-off ceremony for the National Adaptation Planning for Climate Resilience (NAP4CR) Project.
More than one million small-scale farmers and pastoralists are set to benefit from the Strengthening Drought Resilience for Smallholder Farmers and Pastoralists in the IGAD Region Project (DRESS-EA) which was granted USD13,079,540 by the Adaptation Fund.
On 7 October, GWP Chair Howard Bamsey was the keynote speaker in the second of a series of webinars organized by the Asia-Pacific Water Forum (APWF) on the road towards the 4th Asia-Pacific Water Summit in 2022. He spoke to the topic of "Climate Change, Sustainable Development, and Investors: More Risks, More Opportunities through better Governance." His speech focused on how the world can deal with the potentially catastrophic risks of climate change by changing the pattern of investment in the global economy, towards climate-friendly activities.
