Aranayake, a secluded agricultural area known mainly for tea and spice cultivation, came to the limelight for tragic reasons with the Samasara landslide of May 2015. Caused partly due to climate change and partly due to anthropogenic influences, the landslide was a result of 6 days of constant high intensity rains. The incident also caused the highest number of casualties ever recorded in a Sri Lankan landslide.

Since its establishment in 1999, Pakistan Water Partnership (PWP) is determined in establishing and strengthening Area Water Partnerships and using them as a platform for facilitating collective action by all concerned stakeholders for better management of water resources in rural Pakistan.

GWP South Asia attended the Transboundary Rivers of South Asia (TROSA) Annual Learning Forum 2018 held in Kathmandu, Nepal from 24 to 25 July 2018. The theme of the forum was “Partnerships for Inclusive Water Governance in South Asian River Basin Forum”.

TonFuturTonClimat (YourFutureYourClimate) is an initiative that aims to integrate young people into the decision-making process for action related to adaptation and resilience to climate change in three West African countries: Benin, Burkina Faso and Togo. The initiative is being developed in the framework of the international climate cooperation programme financed by the Québec Green Fund. It is coordinated by the Global Water Partnership West Africa GWP-WA), the International Secretariat for Water (ISW) in collaboration in the Countries with the Country Water Partnerships (CWP) of Benin, Burkina Faso and the NGO Eau Vive in Togo. Several partners among which the Ministry of Environment, Water and Climate of Zimbabwe and the Municipality of Marondera have come together to help Zimbabwe develop an Integrated Water and Wastewater Master Plan that will, in part, present detailed prioritized investments for the municipality of Marondera, financed by the African Water Facility. This project will also build the capacity of the key sector players, which will in the long term foster an integrated approach in managing the water and sanitation facilities in the country.

GWP WA and IUCN/PACO have announced the name of the laureates of the fifth edition of the water and environment journalism competition. The topic this year was "Water resources management: examples of good nature - based practices ".
