Nature-based solutions can address societal challenges and safe-guard the prospect of a water-secure future.

March 22 is World Water Day (WWD) named by the United Nations in 1993 to highlight the challenges associated with precious resource.

In the context of setting the scene for the development of the new GWP strategy, the Regional Days 2018 in Budapest included a session exploring GWP’s current position within the different regions and themes, and how the network adds value. Each region and thematic lead were asked to develop a poster describing their work and application in practice. The below posters are internal GWP working documents.

During the 5^th Meeting of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) Water Expert Group (WEG) in November 2015, a UfM Ministerial Conference on Water has been proposed to take place the first semester of 2017 in Malta. The technical process towards that was launched  with the WEG mandating a Drafting Group to elaborate on technical contents, in case the political partners decide to convene the suggested ministerial meeting.

Water insecurity costs the global economy roughly US$ 500 billion annually and causes the death and displacement of more people than cyclones, floods and earthquakes combined. In particularly vulnerable economies, a 50% reduction in drought effects could lead to a 20% increase in per capita GDP over a period of 30 years. Therefore, mechanisms to enhance integrated drought management are more critical than ever.

On December 13-15, 2018, Pan-Asia Capacity Development Training Workshop on Water Governance convened over 40 participants from 17 countries of Asian region in Kunming, Yunnan province.

The DANUBE FLOODPLAIN project, supported by Interreg Europe through the Danube Transnational Programme (DTP), will be implemented by 18 partners with 4 associated strategic partners across ten countries sharing the Danube River Basin (Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary, Slovakia, Slovenia, Romania and Serbia).

Dam MOGBANTE, outgoing regional coordinator of GWP West Africa has official handed over to the new coordinator, Armand HOUANYE during a ceremony in GWP WA premises in Ouagadougou on 20 November 2017. Many GWP regional partners including the Volta Basin Authority, CILSS, IUCN, CWP Burkina, ECOWAS/WRCC, GWP regional TEC chair, Steering committee members attended the ceremony.

GWP/WA releases annual report

The Project Manager (PM) and Communication Officer (CO) of WACDEP participated in an experience sharing of field demonstration partners on activities on28^th June, 2016. The Experience sharing took place in the conference room of the Department of Agriculture of the Bawku Municipal Assembly.
