The HLPW was co-convened in 2016 by the UN Secretary-General and the World Bank President to provide the leadership required to tackle one of the world’s most pressing challenges – an ever growing water crisis. The Panel identified ways in which the world could accelerate progress towards ensuring availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all (SDG 6).
The International Water Summit (IWS) is a global platform for promoting water sustainability in arid regions by bringing together stakeholders to accelerate the development of new sustainable strategies and technologies. It takes place in Abu Dhabi, UAE, on 15-18 January 2018.
The Arab Water Council (AWC) is holding its 4th Arab Water on 26-28 November in Cairo, Egypt. The Forum is a tri-annual event and is a meeting place for AWC’s members from 22 Arab states, together with their partners and associates from the region and from around the world.
CWP Benin organized on April 25 2017 a workshop to validate the water security strategic framework in the Mekrou basin study carried out by a consultant at regional level.
South Africa was the first of seven countries to kick-start a global consultative process to agree on the values of water in a bid to ensure more equitable use of water as it's becoming a limited resource.
GWP publishes Perspectives Papers to contribute to discussions on important issues related to water and development. We welcome responses to these occasional papers.
In addition to implementing relevant outcomes of the HLPW, AIP will address the challenges defined by AfDB and AMCOW in the Africa Regional Report for the 8th Word Water Forum.
The GWP network used the 8th World Water Forum, the world's largest water-related event, to demonstrate the impact of its multi-stakeholder partnership on improving the way the world manages its water resources. GWP was involved in over 40 events during the week and many network Partners were present, as well as representatives of the global office and the GWP regions.
