Prof Amadou Hama Maiga has officially met with the staff of the regional secretariat on October 18 and 19 to exchange on ongoing matters. An opportunity for him to exchange deeply with the outgoing Executive Secretary Mr. Dam Mogbante and the incoming Mr. Armand Houyane who also came to Ouagadougou for that purpose.
On Wednesday 31 January 2018, the Via Water project was launched in Cotonou, Benin. The launch ceremony took place under the sponsorship of the Deputy Secretary General of the Minister of Water and Mines, in the presence of the actors of the consortium in charge of the said project, the representatives of public structures of the sub-sector, the Ministry of Health, the young water professionals of the Beninese Network of Youth of the World Water Parliament (RB/PMJE) and the economic operators of the water sector.
In order to be able to achieve the long-term goal of the programme, it is necessary to fully understand the economics of water in a country, river basin or region under consideration. Without this knowledge it is impossible to determine the value of proposed investments or their related costs and benefits. Therefore, it is unlikely that it will be possible to package the required finance for the investment.
Professor Amadou Hama MAIGA is the new chair of Global Water Partnership West Africa (GWP-WA). It was proclaimed following a recruitment process approved by the Assembly of Partners on 29 September 2017 in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.
On June 1, 2017, GWP China, jointly with its partners, chaired the SDG6 webinar inception in Chinese language at the invitation of the Cap-Net UNDP based on close relationship of GWP with UNDP and UNEP.
IWMI is looking for a Gender, Youth and Inclusion (GYI) Lead Specialist to work jointly across activities of WLE and also on IWMI-specifc activities. The person will be responsible for driving efforts to deliver a step change in our understanding of gender, youth and inclusion challenges in sustainable agriculture and natural resource management. The Lead Specialist will focus on delivering evidence that can underpin changing policies and practices on gender, youth and inclusion; and support the transfer of this evidence to partners in order to enable positive outcomes for people living in rural and urban communities.
