Nepal is particularly vulnerable to climate change impacts for a variety of environmental, social, and economic reasons. Average temperatures have been rising steadily since the 1970s. Most of the mountain ranges within Nepal are home to extensive glaciers which are experiencing widespread retreat. Glacial discharge in turn impacts the hydrological regimes of rivers downstream and causes rapid growth of glacial lakes; glacier lake outburst floods (GLOFs) are one of many climate change phenomena with the potential to pose extreme risk to populations, infrastructure, etc.

Global Water Partnership Technical Committee (GWP TEC) and Global Water Partnership China Region (GWP China) will exchange experience regarding water sharing as well as river basin management in China on January 31 - February 1, 2018 in Beijing.

The 9th World Urban Forum (WUF9), convened by the UN Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat), brings together stakeholders to share practices and knowledge on how cities are built, planned and managed. The Forum is held 7-13 February in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

GWP, together with the Green Climate Fund (GCF) and the African Ministers' Council on Water (AMCOW), opened a high-level discussion on how financing water security can accelerate delivery on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
