The NEPAD Agency and Global Water Partnership (GWP) on 26 November 2018 signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to accelerate the implementation of priority continental water infrastructure projects within the framework of the Programme for Infrastructure Development in Africa (PIDA) and the Africa Investment Programme (AIP).
The regional organisation Global Water Partnership - Mediterranean (GWP-Med | www.gwpmed.org) and the Energy and Water Agency (EWA | www.energywateragency.gov.mt) of Malta are organizing two back-to-back Capacity Building Workshops in November 2019 in Malta: 12-13/11: ‘Communicating Water Trends & Innovation to Engage Locals and Tourists’, and 13-14/11: 'Non-Conventional Water Resources Management: Local Solutions'.
GWP West Africa together with the West and Central Africa Programme of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN / PACO) and the Regional Partnership for the Conservation of Coastal and Marine area in West Africa (PRCM) gathered the winners of the water and environment journalism award. The action took place on 25 November 2017 as a side event at the PRCM regional Forum that held from 23 to 27 November in Conakry, Guinea.
Hanoi, 22 March 2019 -- In the Southeast Asia region, prone to many disasters such as cyclones, floods and droughts, many efforts are being made to build capacity, influence policies and develop strategies to better equip member states to prevent and address disaster. Given the need and importance of paying attention to water-related disasters, the High-level Experts and Leaders Panel on Water and Disasters (HELP), drafted ‘principles on investment and financing for water related disaster risk reduction’, which was launched during the 8th World Water Forum in Brazil. Building on a cooperation between the Global Water Partnership (GWP), the HELP and Japanese government, a session on DRR is organized with the main objective to consult on investment and financing for water related-disaster risk reduction principles. This consultation was organized as part of Viet Nam wAter Cooperation Initiative (VACI) 2019 as this initiative is closely related to the VACI’s objectives, which was designed to share and co-create innovative water solution with emphasis on Vietnam and tropical water issues. The Panama chapter of the Central American Water Youth Network held its 2nd national youth conference in Chirquí, June 2 and 3, with the support of GWP and other organisations.
Related to the GCF, the workshop will focus on building capacity of, strengthening collaboration among, and sharing lessons across the GCF National Designated Authority (NDA), Direct Access Entities (DAEs) and potential DAEs, and water ministries or national water agencies within a country, and across country. Coordination among these national level mechanisms for successful preparation and participation in the workshop will serve as a useful example of similar cross-institutional coordination required to access other climate funds.
The 7th Africa Water Week (AWW7) takes place in Libreville, Gabon, on 29 October to 2 November. The theme of the week is "Toward Achieving Water Security and Safely Managed Sanitation for Africa".
The uneven distribution and quality of water resources in the Tisza River Basin brings challenges on how to elaborate the Programme of Measures as required by the EU Water Framework Directive. The team of 43 experts is currently working on the update of River Basin Management Plan under the Interreg project JOINTISZA.
