For the past century, Thailand had been experiencing constant severe floods which typically occurred in between August and December. Yet, the worst flood ever experienced in more than a half century in Thailand was the mega 2011 flood – indicating tremendous loss of lives and properties across socio-economic sectors. 

The Buzi, Pungwe and Save (BUPUSA) Tri-basin Project, an initiative that will support the ongoing negotiations on the Buzi and Save River Basin Water Sharing Agreements, and establishment of the BUPUSA Tri-basin Institution, invites candidates to apply for the position of Consultant – BUPUSA Administrative Assistant.

GWP Central America is part of the organising committee for the sub-regional process leading up to the 8th World Water Forum, to be held in Brasilia, March 2018. In this capacity, GWP Central America, together with GWP Caribbean, held an online consultation to identify cross-cutting themes and topics that will be discussed at the Forum next year. The CWP-Benin, with the support of the Water Integrity Network (WIN), supported in December 2018 and January 2019 the municipalities in promoting good integrity practices for better governance in the water sector at the municipal level.

The Global Water Partnership South Asia (GWP SAS) Regional Council announced the appointment of Dr Khondaker Azharul Haq as the GWP SAS Chairperson in effective of 1 January 2019.

The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and Global Water Partnership (GWP) are increasing their long-standing cooperation to strengthen water resource management at a time when climate change, population shifts and environmental degradation are leading to more stress on water supplies and more water-related hazards.

GWP Chair Oyun Sanjaasuren and GWP Technical Committee Chair Jerome Delli Priscoli participated in a UN General Assembly Water Dialogue and a Special Event on World Water Day, 22 March, in New York. Experts discussed how to improve integration and coordination of the UN's work on the water-related Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

In the face of profound global water challenges, on World Water Day 2018 five global multi-stakeholder partnerships representing business, governments, intergovernmental organisations, academia, and civil society organisations announced a new collaboration effort designed to accelerate progress toward ensuring the availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation around the world.
