In our 2016 interview series to celebrate GWP 20 years, we talk to Ruth Beukman, Regional Executive Secretary for GWP Southern Africa. After 13 years, she is preparing to leave her job at the end of this year. But she will never completely leave GWP, she says, and speaks fondly of the network – the “GWP family”, whose strength lies in its strong relationships, diversity and flexibility.

The Graeme Hall Swamp is linked to the St. Lawrence Lagoon and is the last remaining coastal wetland in Barbados. The wetland has been designated as a Natural Heritage Conservation Area and has also been established as one of two Caribbean Coastal Marine Productivity Programme (CARICOMP) monitoring sites in Barbados. The Graeme Hall Watershed, located in the south of Barbados, spans 1,156 acres. The most significant element of this watershed is the Graeme Hall Swamp. 

Bienvenue GBELO wins the 2015 GWP-CAf Media award on “water and climate change”.

 

Bienvenue GBELO, a journalist reporter for Radio Ndeke Luka in Bangui, Central African Republic wins the Global Water Partnership-Central Africa Media Award on “Water and Climate change” 2015. As winner of media competition launched by GWP-CAf on February 1^st 2015, he was awarded a certificate, a recorder and cash prize of 500 euros. 

Bienvenue’s submission was based on the theme “Drinking water still a rare commodity in Bangui.” The press article looked specifically at water shortage phenomena in the capital city and dryness of certain streams in the neighbourhood/surrounding villages.

GWP Central and Eastern Europe is releasing today two short papers presenting the achievements of two demonstration projects within the Integrated Drought Management Programme in Central and Eastern Europe.

A programme designed for climate change adaptation and the increase of water availability in the Mediterranean.

Water resources, in particular conventional rural water supply systems/sources are among the first to be impacted by climate variability. Jointly organized by GWP CEE and the International Commission for the Protection of the Danube River, this ambitious contest encourages children to visit their local rivers and create artworks reflecting what the Danube means to them.
