The Global Water Partnership has partnered with NEPAD Agency, the AUC, and the African Ministers Council on Water (AMCOW) to formulate the Programme for Infrastructure Development in Africa (PIDA) Water support initiative Project (2019-2024). The project aims to accelerate the preparation and financing of transboundary water projects and foster a water-food-energy nexus approach in the development of hydropower projects.

The Executive Secretary of GWP-WA, Mr. Armand HOUANYE, on a working visit to Togo, met on 19 February 2019 with national partners to discuss the revitalization of the Togo Country Water Partnership (CWP Togo).

Drought in the central American region is characterized by a variation in rainfall distribution, manifested by a few rainy events among long periods without rainfall within the rainy season. This situation severely affects production cycles of agricultural producers, who heavily rely on rain-fed agriculture and lack adequate technology to face droughts; negatively influencing overall economic and social stability, and wellbeing. In the Honduran agricultural sector, drought mainly manifests itself through crop loss, reduced crop acreage and water supply problems in terms of both quantity and quality. The effects generated have significant impact on the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), which is why this issue is very high up in the political agenda.

The INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE "RATIONAL USE OF WATER RESOURCES - KEY FOR ACHIEVING THE SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS" organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and the State Committee of Water Resources took place from 5-6 November 2019 in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan. GWP's new Strategy 2020-2025 was also launched at the event.

The International Water Management Institute (IWMI) is seeking dynamic leaders with exceptional management aptitude and a deep understanding of water, land and agricultural development challenges and opportunities in regions where they work. IWMI currently has Country Representative opportunities in Ethiopia, Ghana, South Africa and Sri Lanka.

After many years of hesitation, the Country Water Partnership of Guinea held its third partners’ meeting on December 14 in Conakry. The so awaited meeting gathered about sixty (60) representatives of partner organizations in the country and presided by the technical advisor to the Guinean Minister of Energy and Water, Mr. Ismael DIA.

Designation: GWP/WA Executive Secretary (ES) Duty post: Ouagadougou, BURKINA FASO Purpose: To develop, fund raise for, promote, manage and oversee implementation of GWP/WA’s strategies and programmes, as well as develop and nurture political and programmatic relationships with key institutions and GWP Partners, for meaningful and effective delivery of the programmes.

Nine Country Water Partnerships (CWP) are now accredited out of the thirteen in West Africa. At the end of September 2017, the Assembly of Partners of GWP West Africa recommended that Senegal and Ivory Coast CWPs make necessary steps to submit needed documents for their accreditation.

The Partnership Secretariat is hosted by the Global Water Partnership’s Water, Climate & Development Programme in Stockholm, Sweden. The Secretariat currently coordinates Partnership activities at the continent level in Asia, working closely with Regional Water Partnerships and Country Water Partnerships, and under the continuous guidance of the founding members including NDAs, DAEs, and Ministries of Water. The Volta Basin Authority (VBA), the Global Water Partnership West Africa (GWP - WA) and the World Meteorological Organization are organizing the Regional Training Workshop on Integrated Flood Management (IFM), Preparation and Financing of IFM projects from 20th to 24th November 2017 within the premises of the VBA Executive Directorate in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.
