WACDEP Zimbabwe contributes to NCCRS review process

WACDEP Zimbabwe held a Catchments and Sub-Catchments Consultation and Action Planning Workshop from 12-13 September 2013, in Kadoma, about 140km south-west of Harare. The workshop with the aim of contributing towards the review and submission of written comments for the first draft of the National Climate Change Response Strategy for Zimbabwe (NCCRS) attracted over 65 participants (chairpersons from some of the 47 Sub-catchment and 7 Catchments in Zimbabwe, and officials from MWRDM and Zimbabwe National Water Authority (ZINWA). Zambia: Water Watch Groups (#340)

Following the reorganisation of the water sector in Zambia, an action that decentralised service provision, it became crucial to monitor the service providers and the consumer experience. Action was taken to set up Water Watch Groups that have as their responsibility to raise public awareness about rights and obligations. This case study, concludes that consumer involvement is the key to the success of water sector reforms.

Informing a Global SDG on Water through UN Water

GWP SA (through GWPO),  has now been engaged by UN Water to organize post 2015 national consultations on water between February and end of March 2014. The consultations have been held in three countries – Zambia, Zimbabwe and Tanzania. This process is facilitated by GWPO through its regional and country networks - UN Water having given GWP this role because of GWP’s stakeholder platforms across the world.

Kenya Consultation Identifies Five Priority Areas for Water

Kenya organized the national consultations on water for the post-2015 development agenda at the Kenya Institute of Water in Nairobi on 14 March 2014. More than 30 participants from cross sectoral organizations attended the meeting, which was supported by GWP Eastern Africa.

The working visit of the chair on the Mekrou Project

The Chair of GWP- WA, Professor Abel AFOUDA conducted a working visit to Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso and Niamey in Niger from 4 to 8 February 2014 to discuss mainly on the new project ''Water for Growth and poverty Reduction in the Mekrou transboundary River basin”.

Nigeria holds post 2015 consultations

The one-day national consultation took place at the Reiz Continental Hotel, Central Business District Area in Abuja on 3rd April, 2014. The meeting was organized by the Global Water Partnership-Nigeria (GWP-N). The Consultations captured a broad range of priority issues related to water in the post-2015 development agenda from the Nigerian perspective.

GWP CACENA Regional Council has adopted activity plans for 2014

GWP CACENA Regional Council Meeting was held on 23-25 December 2013 in Tbilisi, Georgia. The Regional Council Members considered the following main five items:

- Joining the Country Water Partnership of Mongolia into GWP CACENA network;

-  GWP CACENA regional work program and budget for 2014;

- GWP CACENA Calendar of Events for 2014;

- Climate Change Adaptation Program for the period 2013-2015 (funded by GWPO);

- Organizational issues.
