The 11th General Assembly and Technical Workshop of the Mediterranean Network of Basin Organisations (MENBO) will take place 22-24 March 2017 in Malta, at the invitation of the Maltese authorities, and coinciding with the Maltese Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

On World Water Day 22 March 2017 the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Faculty of Law, University of Ljubljana hosted a roundtable entitled "The importance of drinking water sources for international peace and security."

The CWP Niger has coordinated with the consultants to send data in the framework of the Mékrou Project and tackling some burning issues in relation with data collection in the country.

Within the framework of developing a full project proposal on the establishment of an Early Warning System in the Lake Chad Basin area, GWP-CAf and LCBC organized a workshop on the approval of the inception report on the strategy for conducting the assignment, and the deliverables to be produced by the team of consultants, charged to produce a full-fledged project document.  The workshop was held from 11-12 of July 2016 in Ndjamena, Chad.

 

The attendees to this meeting were 8 experts (in hydrology, climate change) and 4 support staff from the LCBC executive secretariat, 3 experts from German Cooperation groundwater and climate change adaptation projects, the coordinator of the programme to rehabilitate and strengthen the resilience of lake chad basin systems (PRESIBALT), 2 representatives of GWP Central Africa, and the team of three recruited consultants (2 experts of PEGASYS from South Africa and 1 independent consultant from Chad).

 

The main objective of this meeting was to present, enrich and approve the inception report on the strategy for conducting the assignment, and the deliverables to be produced by the team of consultants. It was also an opportunity for consultants to meet, share their experiences and strengthen their collaboration. 

The period between 2011 and 2016 saw Global Water Partnership Africa Coordination Unit (GWP –CU) mobilising Euro 19.5 million for water security and climate resilience development in Africa through the Water, Climate and Development Programme (WACDEP).

Under the GWP Gender Strategy, Youth Strategy and SDGs Roadmap, GWP China has implemented them resulting in tailor-made processes for adequately GWP's concepts mainstreaming our regional policies and operations.

Preparations for GWP’s participation in Stockholm World Water Week 2015 have been going on for several months and everything is now ready. The network is organising a number of events and GWP representatives will participate in many sessions throughout the week of 23-28 August.

The Global Water Partnership-Caribbean (GWP-C) Water, Climate and Development Programme (WACDEP) is aimed at building climate resilience in the Caribbean water sector, as a key part of sustainable regional and national development for economic growth and human security.

A water, energy and food nexus demonstration project, under the Water, Climate and Development Programme (WACDEP), is set to be implemented in the Tuli- Mtshabezi River Sub Basin of the Shashe sub catchment with emphasis at Mtshabezi Mission to build the resilience of the community around the Basin. As part of the preparatory work scheduled prior to project implementation, an exploratory site visit was undertaken by the team of consultants from the water, energy and food sector on the 17th of July 2015.
