The regional secretariat has continued activities to strengthen the collaboration with strategic partners at regional level. After 2017 year ending activities with the Volta Basin Authority, a meeting was held on 31st January 2018 at VBA to exchange on concrete actions to carry out jointly by the two institutions.
“Asia and pacific region should agree for a regional policy to address water-related disaster risk reduction” said Hon. Palitha Range Bandara, the State Minister of Irrigation and Water Resource Management at a special side event on Water and Disaster Risk Reduction in Asia at the Asian Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction (AMCDRR) 2018.
The 18th session of the Bamako Forum was held on 22 to 24 February 2018 around the topic “Land use planning in the Sahel-Saharan region: a factor for security, development and peace ".
Represented by its Regional Coordinator, Mr. Hycinth BANSEKA, the GWP-CAf Secretariat actively participated in various sessions, particularly those on "The Contextual Analysis of Sanitation in Gabon: Opportunities and Perspectives (in relation to the SDGs)" organized by the Ministry of Water and Energy of Gabon and "Water security, infrastructure, investment and innovation".
On August 30, 2017, GWP China and WRI jointly organized side event of ‘Circular Economy Cities: Transforming China and India's Urban Wastewater’ during the 2017 World Water Week in Stockholm, Sweden.
The Global Water Partnership - in collaboration with the Asian Development Bank, Climate Change Commission-Philippines, the Government of Palau, Asia-Pacific Water Forum, Japan International Cooperation Agency, UN Environment, and the Asia Pacific Adaptation Network - is organising, in consultation with the Green Climate Fund, a Technical Workshop on Project Preparation for Transformational Climate Resilience Water Project Concepts in Asia. The workshop is held 15-16 October at the Asian Development Bank (ADB) Headquarters in Manila, Philippines.
The GWP-N has appointed a new Technical Secretary and desk officer in the person of Miss Amadi Chioma Ebelechi who resumed duty on the 11th of March 2019. All documents of GWP-N were handed over to her for safe keeping and proper running of the secretariat. She takes over Engr. Peter Suleh.
The regional center AGRHYMET together with NBA, JRC and GWP-WA organized the final workshop for the synthesis of scientific activities of the Mekrou Project. The event took place in Niamey, Niger from 7 to 8 December 2017.
GWP has committed to “building a water secured world” via its unique property--multiple-stakeholders participation (MSP). Over twenty years, the diverse network of GWP has depended on MSP that helps GWP promote its vision and missions, and set up partnerships with different organisations from 84 countries. WWF8 appears a festival to GWP and all concerning water issues who gathered in Brazil which is the 5th largest country with 85% vegetation, to exchange theories, practical lessons and achievements and develop networking.
