Benin, local water committees to boost grassroot action

The Benin Country Water Partnership has started a process to establish local water committees (LWC) in micro basins as part of the Multi Year Programme 4 (MYP4) with the technical and financial support of Protos and the Belgian Development Cooperation.

« WATER AND ENVIRONMENT » MEDIA COMPETITION 2017

(Ouagadougou, October 09, 2017) - The West and Central Africa Programme of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN / PACO), the Regional Partnership for the Conservation of Coastal and Marine area in West Africa and the Global Water Partnership West Africa (GWP-WA) released today October 9, 2017 the names of the winners of the fourth edition of the "Water and Environment Journalism" competition. The competition which was launched on August 1, 2017 for one month had two price categories: Continental Waters and Marine and coastal waters. Two winners were selected for each category. This fourth edition registered the participation of many journalists from several countries in West Africa. The winners are as follows:

GWP recognises the importance of the private sector, a key stakeholder, in delivering the water-related development agenda. The integrated water resources management approach can add value to existing corporate stewardship initiatives and leverage the strengths and perspectives of the private sector to improve water management and governance.

Mr. Armand Houanye from Benin is the new Executive Secretary

He has 17 years of working experience in agricultural water management, IWRM, climate resilience, water governance and integrity. He holds a Master’s degree in Climate Risks Management with a Diploma of Agricultural Engineering in Development and Management of Natural Resources.

Theory of Change

Based on the concept of economy-wide interdependence, the AIP will - through the programme components on SDG 6 investments; Resilience; Project Preparation and Financing; and Water Governance-revitalise ongoing activities of the water community in Africa to realise the Africa Water Vision 2025 and consolidate the achievements to-date of those interventions. By way of contributing to processes to deepen the impact of those efforts, the AIP will - through the programme components on Valuing Water; and Catalysing Change - focus its activities on responding to the three generally accepted bottlenecks in the delivery of the infrastructure needed to underpin economic growth and transformation in Africa, namely:

International Workshop on Water Scarcity

Taking action in transboundary basins and reducing health impacts - this workshop aims to accelerate actions to address water scarcity and thereby reduce the related health, social, economic and environmental risks. It takes place in Geneva, Switzerland on 11-12 December.

IFM Regional Workshop -20 to 24 November in Ouagadougou

The Volta Basin Authority (VBA), the Global Water Partnership West Africa (GWP - WA) and the World Meteorological Organization are organizing the Regional Training Workshop on Integrated Flood Management (IFM), Preparation and Financing of IFM projects from 20th to 24th November 2017 within the premises of the VBA Executive Directorate in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.
