Eau Vive International (NGO) represented by Kristel MALEGUE, Advocacy and International Partnership Director and the Coalition, and Ilias SAWADOGO, Assistant Youth Programme Officer, made a working visit to Global Water Partnership West Africa on 22 February 2018.

The national workshop to review the draft Water Charter of the Volta Basin was held on 24 and 25 July 2018 in Ziniaré under the chairmanship of Mr. TRAORE Serge, Director General of Water Resources (DGRE) of the Ministry of Water and Sanitation of Burkina Faso.

During a ceremony held at GWP / WA the Mékrou Project manager, Mr. Corneille AHOUANSOU who resigned handed over to the Executive Secretary of GWP West Africa, Mr DAM MOGBANTE and received regards from his former colleagues. The chair of the CWP Burkina and two of his colleagues, the Permanent Secretary of the CWP Niger, Mr Radji GARBA who will support the ES in the technical implementation of the Project to completion and GWP / WA staff were in attendance.

The annual GWP Network Meeting will be held on 11 October at 13.00 Central European Time (CET). It is a virtual meeting, to be broadcast on the GWP website www.gwp.org – with a special guest message from UN Deputy Secretary General (DSG) Jan Eliasson. The official ceremony was chaired by Mr. Drissa Samaké, technical advisor to the Ministry of Energy and Water. This year, Mali is celebrating the event in a particularly alarming context. According to the Deputy Director General of Hydraulics, Mr. Djorou Bocoum, water stress has never been so present in Mali since 1984. Rivers usually withdraw in January, but this year, he explains, they began to withdraw in September.

GWP Chair Dr Oyun Sanjaasuren will be one of the panellists in a UN General Assembly Water Dialogue on World Water Day, 22 March 2017. Experts are invited to discuss how to improve the integration and coordination of UN's work on the water-related Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and targets.

The NWSAS Consultation Mechanism held its 12th Steering Committee (SC) in Tunis, October 3rd, 2018. The three riparian countries, Algeria, Libya and Tunisia, discussed the options presented by GWP-Med tin relation to the enhancement of the institutional and legal setting of the NWSAS consultation mechanism.
