GWP’s VISION is a water secure world. Our MISSION is to advance governance and management of water resources for sustainable and equitable development.

OUR UNIQUE VALUE: GWP mobilises action on the global water crisis through a unique combination of social capital, shared values, credibility within the global water community, bottom-up orientation, and expertise. A network of networks, we ensure the ‘voices of water’ can inﬂuence local, national, regional, and global development priorities. We are committed to our role as a neutral convener and respected for our focus on inclusiveness and sustainability.

GWP Regions

Disaster Risk Reduction through Climate Change Adaptation in Aranayake, Sri Lanka (#495)

Aranayake, a secluded agricultural area known mainly for tea and spice cultivation, came to the limelight for tragic reasons with the Samasara landslide of May 2015. Caused partly due to climate change and partly due to anthropogenic influences, the landslide was a result of 6 days of constant high intensity rains. The incident also caused the highest number of casualties ever recorded in a Sri Lankan landslide.

Story of Mina 100 Marathons in Shanghai and Guangzhou

In December 2018, GWP China regional royal partner governments—Pearl River Water Resources Commission (Pearl River Commission) & Taihu Basin Authority of Ministry of Water Resources of China (Taihu Authority)—invited youth associations, local communities, NGOs, media and schools to the thematic campaign “Mina Guli on 100 Marathons” in Guangdong Province and Shanghai municipal respectively.

Investing for the future to reduce the risks of disasters

On 9 October 2018, Global Water Partnership Central and Eastern Europe (GWP CEE) together with partners from DriDanube project held Consultations on the Principles on Investments and Financing for Water-related Disaster Risk Reduction at the Romanian National Meteorological Administration in Bucharest, Romania.
