GWP CACENA participated in the 2nd Asia-Pacific Water Summit held in Chiang Mai, Thailand, on 19-20 May 2013, on the theme of “Water Security and Water-related Disaster Challenges: Leadership and Commitment.” The meeting was organized by the Royal Thai Government in collaboration with the Asia-Pacific Water Forum (APWF) and supporting regional and international organizations.
GWP CACENA Regional Coordinator - Vadim Sokolov attended 49th meeting of Board of Governors (BoG) of the World Water Council on 12-13 May 2013 in Seoul (Korea) as an Observer on behalf of the GWP Executive Secretary, Ania Grobicki.
On 12-19 May 2013 the Republic of Armenia hosted 11th European Youth Parliament for Water on “Water Resource Management”.
Egypt is located in the northeastern corner of the African continent. It is bordered by the Mediterranean Sea, the Gaza Strip, the Red Sea, Israel, Sudan and Libya. The Egyptian terrain consists of a vast desert plateau interrupted by the Nile Valley and Delta which occupies about four percent of the total country area.
The Global Water Partnership-Caribbean (GWP-C) with the support of its partner, the Antigua Public Utilities Authority (APUA) hosted a National Stakeholder Consultation on Water in Antigua on April 11th, 2013.
A Regional Day under the theme of “Improved Efficiency for Increased Resilience to Climate Change: an Integrated Water Resources Management Perspective”, and a seminar on “Different Capacities, Different Roles – Empowering South Asian Women for Climate Change Adaptation” were jointly organised by GWP South Asia, GWP-India and WAPCOS Ltd at the recently concluded India Water Week 2013 held in New Delhi, India. Both events witnessed a large number of participants and lively panel discussions. The South Asia Climate Resiliency and Water Security Programme (WAter and Climate REsilience Programme – WACREP) was also launched as part of the Regional Day.
Two weeks later the Roundtable "National Consultations on water in the post-2015 development agenda" organized by CWP-Georgia, some participants were interviewed by the journalist of the newspaper "Komsomolskaya Pravda v Gruzii" (The Truth of Young Communist League in Georgia).
Many climate change models predict that increasing temperatures, droughts, heavy precipitation and other extreme climatic events will have severe impacts on family farmers. Yields might be reduced by up to 50 percent in dry regions at the same time as family farming continues to be the basis unit of the agricultural economy in developing countries.
Building Linkages for Water Security and Climate Change Resilience in Zimbabwe
Key government institutions such as the Department of Water Affairs, including its parent Ministry, the Ministry of Water Resource Development and Management (MWRDM), played prominent roles at the launch of the Water and Climate Development Programme (WACDEP)in Harare, Zimbabwe, on the 10-11 April 2013, with over 70 stakeholders gathered.
