Capacity building – at the individual, institutional, and societal levels – is an important means to further IWRM principles and boost the overall quality of water governance structures. Capacity building essentially stands for a twofold process: (1) it is about understanding the obstacles that prevent the people, the organisations, or any other elements of an institutional framework from fully realizing their development goals; and (2) it is also concerned with finding the applicable mechanisms in overcoming these challenges and ultimately achieving better and more sustainable results.

GWPO, the global GWP secretariat hosted by the Government of Sweden, provides overall support and coordination to the broader GWP network and also represents GWP in international processes and dialogues.

Global Water Partnership Southern Africa attended training on the application of Environmental Flows in the management of transboundary river basins in Southern Africa, with a special focus on the Pungwe River Basin. The training which brought together about 20 participants was an IUCN initiative and was held from 30^th November to 3^rd December in Cape Town, South Africa.  The main parties involved were the government representatives of both Mozambique and Zimbabwe who share the river Basin and therefore needed to come together and agree on the Environmental Flows requirements to ensure equitable socio-economic development and growth.

1. Mekrou Project is studying the impact on the W Park
A study is being carried by the Country Water Partnership of Benin to collect ecnomic data on the visitors of the W Park that covers part of the Mekrou Basin. The assessment is initiated by the Joint Research Center (JCR) with the support of GWP West Africa.

Among the knowledge products the Water, Climate and Development programme of GWP Central America worked on in 2014, are the analysis for the promotion of water security through no/low regrets investments in climate change plans and strategies at the country level.

One of the areas of advocacy that the Global Water Partnership-Caribbean (GWP-C) promotes is Rainwater Harvesting (RWH). GWP-C advocates for safe RWH practices as a means of water augmentation, especially in light of climate related scenarios predicted for the Caribbean.

"Delivering Solutions"

The 3^rd workshop of the Capacity Building Programme “The Economics of Adaptation, Water Security and Climate Resilient Development” took place in the framework of the Water, Climate, Development Program for Africa (WACDEP), in Hammamet, Tunisia, on December 22-25, 2014. The Programme is composed of a series of five workshop trainings that are following the framework cycle developed under WACDEP for water security and climate resilience.

 

The Global Water Partnership – Mediterranean (GWP-Med), along the Tunisian Ministry for Agriculture, Water Resources and Fisheries, held a national workshop on the thematic “The Tunisian agriculture faced with climate change: which guidelines, measures and priority actions to follow?”, on 30-31 Mai 2016, in Gammarth, Tunisia.
