Many participants from West African countries took part in the International Water Law training in Kampala (Uganda) from 6 to 12 June 2016.

Hobah Pierre ROGOTO, the new Executive Secretary of the Pan African Agency Water and Sanitation (WSA) together with three of his staff were received on 7 May 2018 by the regional secretariat of GWP-WA. The visitors explained that this was a courtesy visit to one of their main partners after the crisis that WSA has undergone for the last years.

The Gambia Country Water Partnership (GCWP) is the youngest of the CWPs in West Africa (officially launched in December 2011) is yet to complete its accreditation process as a partner of Global Water Partnership (GWP). Some actions were undertaken since 2014 which didn’t get through. To facilitate the exchange process with country partners in The Gambia, the Executive Secretary decided that the Communication manager goes to Banjul and prepares with them all the needed documentation for the accreditation to be done as soon as possible.

Lake Jipe is facing a number of environmental and management problems which if not addressed, might lead to the disappearance of the lake. These problems include siltation, soil erosion, recurring droughts leading to shrinking fishery, deforestation, reduced lake run off, overgrazing and invasive waterweeds. The Lake Jipe Basin Integrated Management Plan (2009-2014) was developed in a consultation with various stakeholders including government, civil society, private sector and the local communities.

On 28 June, a conference dedicated to the conservation and sustainable use of the Danube River in the Northwest Bulgaria was organized in Vratsa, Bulgaria. The event was jointly organized by Global Water Partnership Bulgaria (GWP Bulgaria) and the Regional Administration of Vratsa.

The unique value of GWP lies in its capability to mobilise action on the global water crisis through a combination of social capital, shared values, credibility within the global water community, bottom-up orientation, and expertise. This ensures that the ‘voices of water’ can influence local, national, regional, and global development priorities.

On 6 June 2017, Kenya Water Partnership held an extraordinary General Assembly Meeting at Grace House Resort Hotel in Nairobi, Kenya. The meeting objective was to address governance issues, elect new office bearers and meet requirements for accreditation
