Global Support Programme for NDCs, Water, Climate and Development

GWP is gearing up for its continued support to countries on climate change adaptation, leading towards the implementation of the Paris Agreement. GWP activities under the Global Water, Climate and Development Programme (WACDEP) aim to strengthen the resilience of countries to climate change, and more specifically support to countries will focus around the Nationally Determined Contributions, the National Adaptation Plan processes, South-South Cooperation, and financing.

Mékrou Project: Monitoring the ongoing processes

    In Benin, Burkina and Niger the biding processes have been completed for the consultants to carry out the study on the Identification of development priorities in the Mékrou Basin being part of each country that will be followed by a validation workshop. The development of the study started in each country and is being followed closely by the CWP and the Mékrou PMT.

    A leap to the drafting of the project document for the setting up of an early warning system in the Lake Chad basin area.

    Within the framework of developing a full project proposal on the establishment of an Early Warning System in the Lake Chad Basin area, GWP-CAf and LCBC organized a workshop on the approval of the inception report on the strategy for conducting the assignment, and the deliverables to be produced by the team of consultants, charged to produce a full-fledged project document.  The workshop was held from 11-12 of July 2016 in Ndjamena, Chad.

     

    The attendees to this meeting were 8 experts (in hydrology, climate change) and 4 support staff from the LCBC executive secretariat, 3 experts from German Cooperation groundwater and climate change adaptation projects, the coordinator of the programme to rehabilitate and strengthen the resilience of lake chad basin systems (PRESIBALT), 2 representatives of GWP Central Africa, and the team of three recruited consultants (2 experts of PEGASYS from South Africa and 1 independent consultant from Chad).

     

    The main objective of this meeting was to present, enrich and approve the inception report on the strategy for conducting the assignment, and the deliverables to be produced by the team of consultants. It was also an opportunity for consultants to meet, share their experiences and strengthen their collaboration.

    Central Africa Journalists at the school of Social Media.

    From 17-18 June, 2015 a regional building capacity workshop  was organized by The Sao Tome and Principe Water Partnership in collaboration with GWP-CAf  on “the contribution of social media in achieving water security in central Africa” for central Africa Journalists specialized in water security and climate resilience reporting.

     

    It brought together at Santana Club & Beach Resort Hotel in Sao Tome Journalists from various media house both private and public, and different countries including Cameroon, Central African Republic, Congo, Chad, Gabon and Sao Tome and Principe.

     

    The workshop aimed at initiating media practitioners to the proper use of social media as a means of communication on the one hand, and on the other hand underlining the role of social media as a catalyst in changing human behavior with respect to water security, and climate resilience and are concerned.

     

    The two day workshop which focused on the use of social media was also a unique opportunity for not only introducing media professionals to the GWP-CAf‘s web presence including the regional website and social media on which the organization is active but also inviting media practitioners to interact on these online platforms

    Senegal, the CWP celebrates WWD with stakeholders

      The Chair of Senegal CWP and three members of the steering committee took part in the various activities related to the celebration of the World Water Day in the countries. The official ceremonies took place in Saint Louis this year. The CWP contributed in finalizing the official communications that were delivered in addition to contributing to the panel discussions.  The scientific panel took place on the topic “Water and Employment” and presided by the Minister of Hydraulics and Sanitation, Mr. Mansour FAYE. Two communications were made on the topic one covering national data and the second one reflecting local situation.

      Mekrou project: the cooperation framework agreement document handed to NBA Executive Secretary

      The Mekrou Project Officer handed over to NBA Executive Secretary 4 original copies and the electronic version of the draft Cooperation Framework Agreement for the promotion of political dialogue in the Mekrou basin. The event took place in Niamey, Niger on August 4, in the premises of the NBA Secretariat with the Executive Secretary, surrounded by his closest collaborators. The Executive Secretary promised to get the NBA Legal advisor examined the document and to initiate its enrolling in the agenda of the next Council of Ministers.

      CWP Benin adopts its Strategic Plan

      A mission was set up in September to develop the Strategic Plan to ensure the strategic guidance of Benin CWP activities during the period 2017-2021. The specific objectives relating to this mission are to provide Benin CWP with a Strategic Plan; give the WIN coalition a guidance document for the promotion of integrity in the water sector and sanitation in Benin. On 18 and 19 October 2016, a workshop was held in Ouidah, bringing together the internal and external stakeholders of the CWP Benin for the validation of the strategic priorities, objectives and results, and action planning.
