In the side lines of the kick-off workshop on Food and Nutrition Security in WEFE in West Africa, GWP WA chair, Pr. Amadou Hama MAIGA accompanied by the GWPO knowledge Management Officer James KENGE, VBA Executive Director, Robert DESSOUASSI, the chair of CWP Mali, Mamadou SYLLA and regional communications and knowledge manager, Sidi COULIBALY together with the technical advisor, Mrs. DIALLO Aissata TRAORE paid a courtesy visit to the Malian Commissioner for Food Security, Mr. Oumar Ibrahima TOURE on 13 December 2017.

During the 5^th Meeting of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) Water Expert Group (WEG) in November 2015, a UfM Ministerial Conference on Water has been proposed to take place the first semester of 2017 in Malta. The technical process towards that was launched  with the WEG mandating a Drafting Group to elaborate on technical contents, in case the political partners decide to convene the suggested ministerial meeting.

The annual GWP Network Meeting will be held on 11 October at 13.00 Central European Time (CET). It is a virtual meeting, to be broadcast on the GWP website www.gwp.org – with a special guest message from UN Deputy Secretary General (DSG) Jan Eliasson. In celebrating World Water Day that falls annually on 22nd March, GWPSA joins the rest of the world in reflecting and campaigning on the importance of reducing and reusing wastewater. In the face of growing concerns regarding climate change in the region, the need to meet the ever-increasing demand and efforts towards reaching the SDGs, and promoting innovative approaches to wastewater management and water recovery is imperative. The treatment and reuse of wastewater has become even more critical to contributing to the drive towards the provision of sufficient water for population growth and industrial demands.

GWP, together with the Green Climate Fund (GCF) and the African Ministers' Council on Water (AMCOW), opened a high-level discussion on how financing water security can accelerate delivery on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The event, the first in a series of discussions on ‘financing SDG 6’, took place in Stockholm on 29 August.

Stemming from the realisation of the inherent linkages between governance and the mobilisation of financial resources for the water sector, the aim of the Governance & Financing for the Mediterranean Water Sector Project has been to diagnose related bottlenecks and identify plausible and realistic recommendations to help overcome them.
