Achieving the SDGs on Water Security and Sanitation - 6th Africa Water Week

The Ministry of Water and Irrigation (Tanzania), together with the African Ministers Council on Water (AMCOW) Secretariat, is organizing the 6th Africa Water Week to be held at Mwalimu Julius Nyerere International Convention Centre, Dar es Salaam from 18th – 22nd July, 2016. The Tanzania Water Partnership has been coopted by the Ministry of Water and Irrigation as one of the lead institutions constituting the National Organizing Committee (NOC) for the 6th Africa Water Week. Several members of TWP are part of the NOC.

Nigeria: training workshop on effective regulation at catchment level

    A training workshop was held on effective regulation targeted at Catchment officers due to their future roles in the catchment regulations, facilitation of the development of Catchment Management Plans (CMPs) and production of Water Charters to be signed by riparian State Governments within the hydrological area. The training was held on 2nd and 3rd February 2016.

    The Forum of Climate Change Adaptation and Water Ecology Construction

    On August 26 to 28, 2014, with the support of GWP China, GWP China Hebei Provincial Water Partnership, jointly with Hebei Provincial Association of Sci-Tech and Handan Water Bureau, organized the “Forum of Climate Change Adaptation and Water Ecology Construction” in Handan City, Hebei Province.

    National Water Week 2016 in Yaoundé.

    In the run up to the World Water Day 2016, GWP-CAf partners, like Cameroon Ministry of water and energy, private sector, NGOs and civil society organizations, organized the national water week 2016, in Yaoundé, which had as theme “water and jobs” and took place over seven days, from March 17-22, 2016.

     

    Several events took place during the national week. Among which, there was a media workshop; two site visits, conducted, one to the wastewater treatment plant and the other to water treatment plant; a campaign for the dissemination of knowledge and legal text on water sector and sanitation; an exhibition fair; football and power walking and a forum on water jobs. All of these activities ended with a competition for a best poem written and cartoon on “water and jobs” for pupils of 5 schools in Yaounde.

    Regional Bodies Urged to Create Enabling Policy Environment

    Southern Africa Development Committee (SADC) and River Basin Organisations (RBO) in the region must create an enabling policy environment that supports harmonised approaches and implementation of joint water quality programmes.
