More than 100 people from 11 departments, including water, meteorology, urban construction, environmental protection, forests and agriculture, were invited to the forum. The leaders of different sectors, experts and professionals listened academic reports on water ecology in China, water ecological environment construction in Handan and Weishui County. After the reports, the participants and reporters exchanged their experience of developing water and ecology in different cities of Hebei Province. The organizers made an on-site investigation in two pilot projects of Handan city under the theme.
Hebei Province, from central to local, has carried out water and ecological environment constructions in the 21st century. The projects in pilot cities make the local water environment have significant changes, improving the ecological environment and cities; providing the local people a recreational space as well as stimulating the development of related industries.
In the summary, the Forum stated that the water and ecological environment development in Hebei should keep the concept of “harmony between people and water”; achieve better conjunction of water source from river diversion projects; make a scientific water use plan to store rain water and control the disasters of urban floods; increase the water supply for urban ecological environment; make a reasonable use of rainwater and local water resources in the eastern plains of Hebei Province in order to restore the groundwater and recover the ground subsidence.
