Preliminary planned Project Manager’s trip to the pilot sites at the end of 2013 could not be implemented due to various organizational, financial and visa problems. Starting from the first quarter of 2014 the familiarization with the ongoing work on the program pilot sites began in coordination with the national project teams.

However, the new phase of strategy implementation has to be improved and aligned with national natural resources strategy and other water related sector plans as well as the 8th national socio-economic development plans of the government 2016-2020” said Mr. Thoumma Saluemxay, Deputy Director General of Department of Water Resources, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment.

The workshop on 26 May 2015 highlighted that The Lao National Water Resources Strategy and Action Plan 2011-2015 implementation and development is very crucial for water sector collaboration among stakeholders in the country since the last five years of review.

As part of the implementation of Mekrou project, and in order to lay the foundations for proper planning, a socio-economic survey will be carried out on households in the basin area in the 3 countries. An initial technical information and training workshop of country coordinators of these investigations was held in Cotonou from 18 to 20 November 2015.

 

From 15-17^th August, 2016, the Global Water Partnership Southern Africa conveyed Water Demand Management skills to a group of Masters Students undertaking the Water Demand Management Module being offered at the University of Western Cape. By virtue of the University of Western Cape being a WaterNet member, and GWPSA’s close affiliation to WaterNet, the 2 institutions were able to work together to build human capacity in Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM). 

The Ministry of Water and Irrigation (Tanzania), together with the African Ministers Council on Water (AMCOW) Secretariat, is organizing the 6th Africa Water Week to be held at Mwalimu Julius Nyerere International Convention Centre, Dar es Salaam from 18th – 22nd July, 2016. The Tanzania Water Partnership has been coopted by the Ministry of Water and Irrigation as one of the lead institutions constituting the National Organizing Committee (NOC) for the 6th Africa Water Week. Several members of TWP are part of the NOC.
