Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, 23 August 2017. The Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA) and the Global Water Partnership-Caribbean (GWP-C), have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to collaborate on initiatives related to water resources and human health.

Sustainable Water Integrated Management – Support Mechanism (SWIM-SM), the largest water-related regional project supported by the European Commission (EC) during 2010-2015, successfully concluded its phase I, and held its Final Steering Committee (SC) Meeting in Luxembourg, on the 25^th of November. With a budget of 7.7 million Euros, the project was implemented in nine south Mediterranean countries[1] by a consortium led by LDK and with GWP-Med as the project technical director.

In the run-up to World Water Day (WWD) on March 22nd, 2016, the Global Water Partnership-Caribbean (GWP-C) joins the entire Global Water Partnership (GWP) Network today in launching GWP’s 20^th anniversary video.

Since 2015, the Country Water Partnership of Benin (Benin CWP) initiated with the support of the Water Integrity Network (WIN) the development of a charter for good governance in the frame of the Multiannual Programme for the promotion of integrity in the area of water and sanitation in Benin. A working group with the support of a consultant led the drafting process of the Charter. From October 2015 to date, the Charter was developed, and stakeholders were consulted on its contents as well as its operationalization mechanism that was also developed.

 

On July 1, 2016, Dr. Oyun Sanjaasuren assumes the role of new Chair of the Global Water Partnership (GWP): "I think those who set up GWP 20 years ago - the people, organisations, governments - were very visionary and had good foresight. It is only more recently that water and water governance gained wider understanding and support”. Dr. Oyun says that now is a crucial time for GWP to influence the global development agenda. 

This two-day event will bring together various water stakeholders who are contributing to achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goal number 6; entrepreneurs, investors, large and small companies, non-governmental organisations, UN agencies, incubators, etc.

The Global Water Partnership - Mediterranean (GWP-Med) coordinated the Drin Day 2016, joining forces with the Mediterranean Information Office for Environment Culture and Sustainable Development (MIO-ECSDE), in the framework of the Drin Project and the Act4Drin Project respectively.

Global Water Partnership Southern Africa provided a Technical Assistance support to the Preparation of the Seychelles Integrated and Comprehensive Sanitation Master Plan from the 21^st to the 24^th March 2016

The CEPF funded Act4Drin project and the GEF/UNDP/GWP-Med project 'Enabling transboundary cooperation and integrated water resources management in the extended Drin River Basin' (GEF Drin Project) are joining forces to raise public awareness about the natural wealth and legacy of the Drin River Basin on the occasion of Drin Day 2016.
