Following the launch of Regional Strategy on Drought Risk Management and Mitigation for South Asia at the 16th Session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 16) to the UNCCD which was held on 10 December 2024, the countries of GWP SAS conducted mini-launches and key stakeholder consultations locally. The AFCIA Mali project, funded by the Adaptation Fund under the Adaptation Fund Climate Innovation Accelerator (AFCIA) program, represents a major step forward in climate risk management in Mali. Implemented by UNEP through the CTCN, with technical assistance from GWP-WA and carried out by AEDD, Mali Météo, and DNH, it runs from March 2024 to December 2025 with a budget of approximately USD 200,000.
Burkina Faso, with the financial and technical support of the Secretariat of the Water Convention, has organized a national workshop to inform stakeholders about the process of acceding to the Convention on the Protection and Use of Transboundary Watercourses and International Lakes. GWP-WA provided technical and financial support for this national meeting.
A multi-stakeholder workshop was held in Bangui on May 30th, 2024, to validate the Central African Republic's climate finance monitoring tool, which was developed under the ongoing GCF Readiness Programme in the country.
Yellow River Protection Law of the People's Republic of China was adopted in October 2022 and took effect on April 1st, 2023. In March and April 2023, the GWP China Yellow River, supported by the Yellow River Institute of Hydraulic Research, organized various activities to expand the influence of the Yellow River Protection Law after engaging river basin residents through publications, exhibitions and thematic campaigns.
