From 25-26 September, the GWPEA program known as “Integrated Drought Management Program in the Horn of Africa (IDMP HOA) “organized a stakeholders’ meeting in Nairobi, Kenya following a scooping exercise to assess the drought resilience status in 8 countries in the Horn of Africa. The countries include Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, south Sudan, Sudan, and Uganda.
The last training session carried out within the framework of the implementation of capacity building program on water security and climate resilience by GWP Cameroon from 25th to 26th of February 2015 aimed at equipping participants with skills and knowledge on mainstreaming water security and climate resilience in their day to day functions for climate resilient development. World Water Week 2014 takes place in Stockholm from 31 August to 5 September. This year’s theme is “Energy and Water”. Global Water Partnership will be involved in a number of activities during the week-long event.

At the SADC Water Week in Mozambique held from 20-22 May, 2015, stakeholders discussed the challenging aspects of managing water resources in the country in view of Mozambique sharing a number of river basins with its neighbours. For instance, the supply of water for the river basins located in the southern part of the country is heavily dependent on the Basins of international rivers. The solution to this challenge was seen in Mozambique requiring to always adapt an integrated water resources management approach and having long-term cooperative arrangements with its neighbours to avoid water availability being a constraint on future growth.
The UN-Water annual Zaragoza Conference serves as preparation for the annual World Water Day. GWP representatives participated in several of the sessions.
The United Nations World Water Day (WWD) is celebrated on March 22nd each year. This year’s (2016) WWD theme is “Water and Jobs.”
