Press Invitation—Global challenges and water security: threats and opportunities

On September 4 the Global Water Partnership (GWP) arranges a unique lecture with the prominent and internationally recognized Dr. Ismail Serageldin, former Vice-President of the World Bank, the founding Chair of GWP, and currently Librarian and Director of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina in Egypt. Dr Serageldin was instrumental in establishing GWP in 1995 and continues to support GWP as a Patron.

Within the framework of implementing the climate change related commitments of the Sharm el-Sheikh Declaration on Water and Sanitation, GWP and AMCOW are implementing the Water Climate Development programe (WACDEP). The WACDEP aims to support African countries develop No/low regrets Water Security and Climate Resilience Investment Strategies, Plans and projects, and promote the integration of water security and climate resilience into national development plans.

To deliver its work in the region, GWPSA is based on a substantial network of partners and collaborators working together to promote Integrated Water Resources Management and create a water secure future for the countries of the region.

The first thing a site needs is a home, the next is content! Before you beign this process, make sure you have done your research and know your aim, audience and purpose of the site.

The GWP network adopts multi-year strategies approved by the Partners. To implement the current strategy, 3-year work programmes and annual workplans have been developed that are approved by the global Steering Committee. Each year GWP reviews progress toward the implementation of the strategy. Please find below links to GWP's strategies. Benin and the Netherlands signed a four year Memorandum of Understanding on water and pledged to establish a "technical advisory platform" with GWP Benin and the Netherlands Water Partnership playing the role of secretariat for the platform for 2012-2015. The MOU was signed by Mr. Ben Knapen, Dutch Minister for European and International Cooperation and Mr. Jonas Gbian, Beninese Minister in charge of water on Thursday, January 12, 2012.

GWP Bulgaria hosted a technical visit of 9 experts, including Kosovo Water Director, from Prishtina based Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning Water Department on September 29 - October 2.

GWP CACENA made the first study of water supply and sanitation in the eight CACENA countries from an IWRM perspective.
