Programme in Malta

In the Maltese islands the Proramme is known as Alter Aqua. Both Malta and Gozo have limited freshwater resources and depend heavily on desalination. The need to mobilise Non Conventional Water Resources (NCWR) to secure local water availability is evident.

5th WACDEP Technical Coordination Workshop

Global Water Partnership – Eastern Africa (GWP-EAf) will be hosting the 5th Water, Climate and Development Programme for Africa (WACDEP) Technical Coordination Workshop. The workshop will be held in Kigali, Rwanda from 23–28 September 2013.

Owning the guidelines for the development of water infrastructure in West Africa

From 19 to 20 March 2015, the Country Water Partnership of Benin organized a national workshop on the ownership of the guidelines for the development of large hydraulic infrastructures in West Africa.
This workshop follows the regional one held on 17 and 18 November 2014 in Lomé, Togo. About thirty stakeholders involved in the process of conducting water works namely the public structures, NGOs, consumers, municipalities, research institutions, etc. took part in the meeting.

RBOs called to adapt Local Indigenous knowledge for coping with Water Related Disasters

Based on country studies on Local Indigenous Knowledge Systems and Practices (LIKSP) and how they contribute to enhancing climate resilience in each of the 14 countries in the SADC region, Qandelihle Simelane (regional consultant of LIKSP studies) gave a regional summation from country studies undertaken in the region during the 6th SADC River Basin Organisations (RBOs) Workshop held from the 15th to the 17th of October 2014 at Birchwood Hotel, Johannesburg, South Africa under the theme “Strengthening Regional Cooperation and Resilience in Water Related Disasters.”

Kenya: Shared risk and opportunity in water resources: Seeking a sustainable future for Lake Naivasha (#446)

Lake Naivasha is an internationally renowned Ramsar site located in the Rift Valley in Kenya. But unlike most other designated wetlands of international importance, the water in Lake Naivasha also anchors a flourishing horticultural industry. The Lake Naivasha Riparian Association (LNRA) was established in 1929 to protect local land owner’s rights. and the LNRA became more strident in trying to balance the impact of the expanding commercial interests surrounding the lake with protecting its environmental integrity.

Local leaders in the Bhutan districts of Tashi Yangtse and Samdrup Jongkhar participated in GWP workshops to learn about integrated water resources management (IWRM).

The Water, Climate and Development Programme in Southeast Asia aims to integrate water security and climate resilience in development planning processes, and support countries within Southeast Asian region to adapt to a new climate regime through increased investments in water security.

“Mission Water” Programme for leveraging Cyprus’ Non Conventional Water Resources

A press event was held at the Athalassa Center for Environmental Education on December 2nd, 2014 to mark the conclusion of the first phase of implementation works for the installation of new and the reinstatement of existing greywater reuse and rainwater harvesting systems at public schools and centres of environmental education.
