Ukraine: Sustainable Rural Development; Demonstrating solutions for water supply, sanitation and agriculture (#361)

In Ukraine, reforms in the sector of water supply and sanitation have focused on centralising water supply and sanitation. Efforts have been made to decentralise water management, delegate to local authorities as well as increase supply in rural areas. This has been done through awareness campaigns, capacity building and innovative techniques of wastewater reuse. The key lesson learnt from this case is that IWRM principles need to be considered when planning for water infrastructure.

Vietnam: Scaling up rural sanitation – political economy constraints and opportunities (#423)

Water Supply and Sanitation policy in Vietnam is regulated through policy and a regulatory framework. However, the rural sanitation sector have had limited success and management has failed to be scaled up. To address these issues the Problem-Driven Governance and Political Economy Analysis Good Practice Framework was used to analyse the poor performance. The most important lesson is that not all policies are appropriate for scaling up.

Regional Workshop on WRM Financing

Nine countries of Southeast Asia sit together in a workshop to share and discussed about water financing in region.This workshop took place in Yangon, Myanmar on 3rd October 2013.

The goals of the workshop are to understand the financing frameworks for water resources management and development, to generate information regarding the level of public investments for WRM initiatives, and to propose potential financing schemes and mechanisms to increase the level of WRM financing.

The annual Global Water Partnership Consulting Partners Meeting will be held in Stockholm on August 26, 2012 immediately prior to the Stockholm World Water Week. The theme of this year's meeting will be “Water security as a catalyst for climate-resilient development”

Stakeholders Contribute to New Climate Information Resource for the Caribbean

The Caribbean Weather Impacts Group (CARIWIG) is a new initiative setting out to create tools that will enable access to climate change information which are specifically applicable to the Caribbean region. To support the development of the Project, key regional stakeholders including GWP Caribbean, gave input at a Regional Stakeholder Consultation workshop on 6-7 February, 2013 in Jamaica.

Moldova: Analysis of transboundary management of the Dniester river basin (#425)

Dniester river basin is a transboundary basin shared by Moldova and Ukraine. Throughout the Soviet era, the water quality deteriorated severely. After the USSR was dissolved, a bilateral agreement was signed by Moldova and Ukraine on the joint use and protection of water resources. This cooperation framework is based on the contributions of network of local authorities. This case illustrates the importance of cooperation among all key stakeholders.
