The Drin River is a complex transboundary water system and a strategic developmental resource for its riparian states in South Eastern Europe.
In the Maghreb region food security relies mainly on irrigated agriculture. Centralized water management which lack water users’ involvement causes problems in the quality and quantity of the resource. Alternative models, which include the management of water by users, have strengthened the innovation of small scale irrigation systems and supported the initiation of cooperatives and networks. This case illustrates the value of small scale solutions, cooperation and training.
The fifth National Training Workshop related to the implementation of the WACDEP Capacity Development Programme on the “Economics of Adaptation Water Security and Climate Resilience Development” was held in Maputo-Mozambique on the 09th - 10th April 2015, at the National Director of Water Affairs (DNA) premises. The date of March 21 marked the network development of GWP China to Xiamen University as Prof. Hao Wang, Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering and the Acting Chair of GWP China and Prof. Yunzhong Jiang, Deputy Coordinator of GWP China were invited to contribute to the College of the Environment and Ecology, Xiamen University in Fujian Province.
A national consultation on Adaptation to Climate Change and Drought in Slovenia was organised on 6 February 2014 by GWP Slovenia and the Centre for Management of Drought in South-Eastern Europe. Over 40 participants attended the meeting at the Slovenian Environment Agency in Ljubljana.

This third capacity-building workshop was held from 16 to 19 June 2015 and brought together participants from the Local Water Committee of North Massili, the Ministry of Animal Resources, General Directorate of Sanitation, Wastewater and Excreta, the Permanent Secretariat of the National Council for Environment and Sustainable Development, Nakanbé Water Agency and the Directorate of Water Resources.
This spring the University of Manchester will offer a new Massive Online Open-Access Course (MOOC) on water and sanitation policy in developing countries. The course starts May 26th and is free and open to everyone. The GWP Technical Committee has endorsed this MOOC.
The Chair of the GWP Technical Committee, Dr. Mohamed Ait-Kadi is happy to announce the arrival of three new members on the committee, appointed by the Steering Committee: Mike Young, Nicole Bernex and Dan Tarlock. In addition, Dr Thomas Panella has been appointed as the Asian Development Bank representative.
