Impact Stories

The extent to which GWP has successfully fostered governance change is most explicitly captured through the monitoring of water governance outcomes, such as a new water policy, revised legislation, institutional reform or a transboundary agreement. All water governance outcomes to which GWP has contributed are assumed to lead to sustainable socio-economic benefits among the target populations through, for example, increased investment in appropriate infrastructure, empowerment of vulnerable groups and more sustainable use of resources.

“Water and Environment” Media Award: Prices to winners

"Water and Environment" media award on the theme "Water Security and Climate Resilience of West Africa" ​​was launched on 29 April 2014.

Global Water Partnership West Africa (GWP/WA) and the West and Central Africa Programme of the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN/PACO) have priced on June 14, 2014 the winners of the first "Water and Environment" media competition.

GWPEA Participates in the 1st Africa Drought Conference (ADC) in Windhoek

GWP Eastern Africa (GWPEA) Regional Project Manager for IDMP attended the 1st Africa Drought Conference (ADC) that was held on 15-19 August 2016 in Windhoek, Namibia. The theme of the conference was “Enhancing resilience to drought events on the African Continent”. Benin : the CWP trains local actors to advocacy

After the Municipal / Communal and Local elections which took place in Benin leading to the renewal of decision-making bodies at municipal level, the CWP Benin has initiated a training session on the advocacy techniques for local water stakeholders. The participants included members of the National Association of Users of the national portion of the Niger Basin (UNA-Benin, the Consultation Framework of non-state actors in the water sector and sanitation (Canea), the Local Water Partnerships (PLE) of Mono and Couffo, the Consumers Associations of Drinking Water (CAPE) and the social intermediation NGOs

Philippines: An excercise in successful utility reform in urban water sector in Manila (#450)

Decades of underinvestment led to poor water and wastewater services and low coverage in Manila. Due to this poor service, the government was unable to increase its water tariffs due to customers’ unwillingness to pay. This situation translated into very low cash flows for the government, thus leading again to the issue of underinvestment, which soon turned to a vicious cycle.

GWD Conference to embrace "Equality for Women is progress for All" IWD theme

GWP SA is a member of the Local Organising Committee (LOC) for the Gender Water and Development (GWD) Conference which will be held from 7-11 July 2014 in East London, South Africa. During the month of March 2014, the LOC reflected on the role of gender equality and how this can be prioritised as a mechanism for creating more equal societies and spurring development. Reflecting on the 2014 International Women’s Day Theme “Equality for Women is Progress for All”, The LOC resolved that this was a key message that needed to be rolled out as the world commemorated International Women’s Day, which fell on 8th March.
