Caribbean Experts Look at Establishing a Regional Climate Outlook Forum

The idea of a Regional Climate Outlook Forum (RCOF) originated out of a workshop entitled “Reducing Climate-related Vulnerability” held in Southern Africa in October 1996. Almost a year later, towards the end of 1997, the first RCOF was held in Zimbabwe in Southern Africa where the idea was birthed.

Funding secured for climate change adaptation in southern Africa

In 2012, GWP Southern Africa secured 1.3 million from the Southern African Development Community (SADC) through the harmonised donor fund for transboundary water management to implement a project mainstreaming climate change in the SADC water sector.

Hungary/Romania: River basin management of the Körös/Crisuri River (#313)

The EU Water Framework Directive requires all EU member states to achieve satisfactory water quality of all waters by 2015. Although each country is individually responsible, cooperation over transnational water resources is required. In the Körös/Crisuri river basin, a project was initiated using the expertise and experience of Hungary and Romania, involving all key stakeholders. The key lesson is the importance of public participation.

Malta: Use of leakage control in water management strategy (#22)

The Maltese islands experience acute water shortage as an area. To address this, leakage control has been developed to become a strategically important component for water resource management, and has been used to reach an optimum economic balance between water supply and water demand. The key lesson is that leakage management is an effective supply side action to increase efficiency in water use leading, and can be used as a strategic tool.

Grenadian Students Learn the Value of Water at Camp

In an effort to engage the youth and help them understand the value of access to potable water, the Grenada Community Development Agency (GRENCODA) held a four-day Student Assistance Programme (SAP) Camp for students between the ages of 12-16 years under the theme “Water a Critical Development Resource, Seriously Challenged.”

DRC Water Partnership

The DRC Country Water Partnership (DRC-CWP) was established in November 2004. The Partnership was established to assist government and other actors        to promote Integrated Water Resource Management (IWRM) principles in the water sector and related sectors. The Partnership is hosted by The National Committee of Water and Sanitation.
