Among the major advances in the implementation of IWRM and the national effort to finance the management and protection of water resources in Burkina Faso, we can cite the adoption and implementation of the Financial Contribution for Water (CFE). It is well known that one of the challenges in all developing countries is the mobilization of resources to finance the sustainable management of water resources. "This is why Burkina Faso has adopted the principles of environmental taxation of the country, which is called the CFE," explains Mr. Firmin W. OUEDRAOGO of SP / IWRM.
Yellow River Protection Law of the People's Republic of China was adopted in October 2022 and took effect on April 1st, 2023. In March and April 2023, the GWP China Yellow River, supported by the Yellow River Institute of Hydraulic Research, organized various activities to expand the influence of the Yellow River Protection Law after engaging river basin residents through publications, exhibitions and thematic campaigns.

The GIZ, GWPSA, and Lesotho Integrated Catchment Management (ICM) Coordination Unit (CU) undertook a learning exchange mission in Zambia from 24th to 28th October 2022, to capture best practices and experiences in catchment protection and restoration in the country. In a bit to strengthen climate resilience and secure sustainable access to water, the Kingdom of Eswatini held a high-level Capacity Needs Assessment Workshop on 9 May 2025. Organised by the Ministry of Tourism and Environmental Affairs (NDA) and the Ministry of Natural Resources & Energy -Department of Water Affairs, with technical support from Joint River Basin Authorities Project Board and the Global Water Partnership Southern Africa as a delivery partner, the event was part of the African Union’s efforts in supporting Member States in developing Climate-Resilient Water Investment Programmes.
