"Right now, a network like the Global Water Partnership is needed more than ever before," says GWP Executive Secretary Monika Weber-Fahr, as she reflects on what happened in 2019 and with a view to what the future might hold. Her remarks came in the just-published GWP in Action 2019 Annual Report.
Desertification, along with climate change and the loss of biodiversity, were identified as the greatest challenges to sustainable development during the 1992 Rio Earth Summit. The World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought is observed every year on 17 May to promote public awareness of international efforts to combat desertification.

The Southern African Development Community (SADC) regional water sector programme is driven through the five-year Regional Strategic Action Plans (RSAPs) for the sector, and is currently implementing the 4th version of (RSAP IV). In March 2021, the Global Water Partnership-Caribbean (GWP-C) will hold a Caribbean Science Symposium on Water; the first of its kind for the region. Its main theme will be “Building Resilience in the Regional Water Sector to Address Climatological and Hydrological Risks and Threats.”
The Caribbean Science Symposium on Water by the Global Water Partnership-Caribbean (GWP-C) takes place virtually on March 23rd – 25th, 2021 from 9:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Atlantic Standard Time (AST) on each day. The theme of the event is “Building Resilience in the Regional Water Sector to Address Climatological and Hydrological Risks and Threats.”
