Conflicts over water use in the Chancay-Lambayeque Basin in northern Peru have increased sharply. 

Water quality is a major issue in Sri Lanka. Pollution and waste dumping contaminate water supplies, leading to serious health impacts for nearby water users. In one of the country’s most serious cases of water pollution, 300,000 people in Gampula were at risk when an epidemic of viral hepatitis broke out; several people died. Local ownership and information are keys to success in water resources management. A project in the Cyohoha water catchment, shared between Rwanda and Burundi, shows that IWRM works in a region which suffered from disastrous conflicts only twenty years go.

The total length of rivers and canals reaches the length of 44,943 km. The largest river is the Danube and the longest is the Vah (367.2 km).

How consolidated efforts can help to reach sustainable development in the region of the Mediterranean Sea to ensure preservation and improvement of the environment and the rich biodiversity, was discussed and presented at the Side Event “Challenges and Opportunities for a Mediterranean Green Growth.”

Global Water Partnership – Southern Africa (GWP-SA) will be hosting the 4^th Water, Climate and Development Programme for Africa (WACDEP) Technical Coordination Workshop. The workshop will be held in Pretoria, South Africa from January 28-01 February 2013.

Representatives from government ministries, NGOs and community-based organisations convened on February 15^th, 2012, for the 8^th Integrated Water Resources Management Stakeholder Meeting put on by the Water and Sewerage Authority and the Water Resources Agency of Trinidad and Tobago.

In Vietnam, there are two kinds of RBO; 1) The Management Board of River basin Planning (MBRBP), established and managed by Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) in a period from 1999-2001 in compliance with Law on Water Resources 1998. 2) The Committee for Environmental Protection of River Basin (CEPRB), established and also managed by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MONRE) during the time 2009-2010.
