‒ Launching of a Strategic Framework at Africa Water Week 2012
In an effort to address the twin challenges of water security and climate change, the African Ministers Council on Water launched The Strategic Framework for Water Security and Climate Resilient Development on May 14, 2012, at the Africa Water Week, in Cairo, Egypt.
Overall Objectives of the Regional Water Partnership in Central Asia and Caucasus
According to the Johannesburg Declaration (2002), the ultimate goal of the activities of Central Asia and Caucasus Partnership Network is to support and assist the countries in implementation of the Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) principles towards the World Summit on Sustainable Development and Millennium Development Goals. This process must be accompanied by public involvement in decision-making, support for the political will for cooperation between sectors and countries, initiating dialogue among all stakeholders and supporting practical activities locally implemented including capacity building.
As part of its continuing implementation of the 2009-2013 Strategy, GWP is developing strategies on gender and youth. The strategies will be elaborated in a participatory way, involving GWP regions and Partner organizations.
Global Water Partnership-Caribbean (GWP-C) member, Ms. Judy Daniel is one of only thirty persons from across the globe that has been awarded a scholarship through the 2012 GWP-University of Dundee International Water Law (IWL) Scholarship Programme. The scholarship will enable her to undertake a module in International Water Law at the University of Dundee in Scotland from June 11th -29th, 2012.
The African Ministers Council on Water recently (AMCOW) acknowledged the value of its partnership with GWP at their General Assembly in Cairo, Egypt, on May 14, 2012, where the AMCOW Framework for Water Security and Climate Resilient Development was launched. Honourable S.S. Nkomo, Vice President of AMCOW, and Minister of Water Resources and Development, Zimbabwe, said, ‘we have good partners, AMCOW values the partnership with GWP and partners, and hereby welcomes this Framework’. The Global Water Partnership-Caribbean (GWP-C) Journalists Network on Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) is a body of journalists from the Caribbean region empowered to build awareness on IWRM and water related issues in their country or region.
In January 2008, GWP-CEE – together with Women in Europe for a Common Future, the European Water Partnership, KIWA Water Research, Coalition Clean Baltic, and Coram Industries – organised a high-level policy dialogue on EU Sanitation Policies and Practices in the 2008 International Year of Sanitation in Brussels, Belgium.
On May 18, 2011, a report was launched on improving water resources management in Kaliningrad, Russia.
