In a breakthrough for water, the 7th African Development Forum held in Addis Ababa in October put water on the infrastructure agenda alongside energy, transport and communications. Water security in many urban areas is under threat due to the stresses of population growth, urbanisation, water pollution, the over-abstraction of groundwater, water-related disasters, and climate change. Current planning and management have proven insufficient to address the challenges of water security. There is a need for a paradigm shift, which was introduced during a GWP workshop attended by more than 200 participants at Asia Water Week on 13 March in Manila, Philippines.

The Global Water Partnership and the African Ministers Council on Water (AMCOW) launched a joint programme to support water and climate change adaptation in Africa.

The 2nd High-Level Regional Policy Workshop focusing on “Adapting to Climate Change Induced Water Stress in Nile River Basin,” resolved to bridge the gap between science and policy, enhance the efforts of generating and sharing knowledge about climate change and conducting hotspot analysis at country level. 

The annual training course of liaison officers who are responsible for foreign affairs, and overseas visits, organized by the Department of International Cooperation, Science and Technology, Ministry of Water Resources, was taken place on August 18 and 19, 2010, Hefei, the capital city of Anhui Province.

As a global action network, GWP reaches out to a wide range of stakeholders in order to bring about changes to the way water resources are managed. Ideally, institutions join GWP as a Partner in order to enjoy the full range of benefits. It is possible that some institutions are not able to join.
