The newest recruit in the GWP global secretariat is Nicolas Delaunay, Resource Mobilisation and Partnership Manager. Two months into the job, Delaunay shares first impressions of his new role, with an important message to partners: “We need to emphasize the urgency we are in.” This interview is the latest in a year-long series of interviews celebrating GWP’s 20^th Anniversary.

The Tanzania Water Partnership (TWP) was launched in Feb 2004 as the 8th Country Water Partnership (CWP) in the Southern African Sub Region. By then, it was called CWP. However, there were only a few activities that were registered between 2004 and 2013. Sporadic efforts to keep and sustain the partnership did not yield much success and hence dormancy dominated most of this period. 

The GEF Drin Project ‘Enabling transboundary cooperation and integrated water resources management in the extended Drin River Basin’ ^[1] organized its 1^st capacity building workshop on “Transboundary Water Cooperation and International Water Law” in Athens, on 14-15 June. 

The 16th WaterNet/WARFSA/GWP-SA symposium, under the theme “Integrated Water Resources Management and Infrastructure Planning for Water Security in Southern Africa”, will be held at Le Meridien lle Maurice Hotel, Mauritius from 28 - 30 October 2015.

On March 2, 2017, as our loyal regional partner, the World Resources Institute (WRI) will sign the Memorandum of Understanding with GWP China. The signing ceremony will convene top leaders of GWP China and WRI at global level in Beijing.

The World Water Forum 7 is happening in Korea this year from 10-18^th April 2015. The theme is ‘Water for Our Future’. The key focus will be on the Sustainable Development Goals and water security.

Several processes that place water at the center of the development are underway worldwide (IWRM, MDGs, SDGs ...).

At the level of West Africa, ECOWAS as the main political body for development, has undertaken, among other actions, the creation of the Permanent Framework for Coordination and Monitoring (PFCM), and the development of the Regional Water Policy in West Africa (PREAO).

A WACDEP Burkina team met on August 19 the AEN team to discuss a kick off project for the involvement of the CWP in the Master plan. The mission aimed also at starting anew the consultations for the development of bancable projects in the basin.

According the WACDEP manager the CWP support will focus on water resources and climate change. And in this context the CWP has already supported the AEN in the development of the Massili local water committee (CLE Massili), in the development of the SDAGE and bankable projects that address new issues.

2015, with the adoption of the 2030 Agenda and the Paris Climate Agreement, was a year of key commitments to sustainable development by governments, civil society, and the private sector.
